Hecker Fink is thrilled to welcome Susan Har, who comes to the firm as Counsel after having most recently served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and the Hate Crimes Coordinator for the Central District of California. Susan is a highly accomplished trial lawyer who has investigated and prosecuted some of the most high-profile and complex white collar cases of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, including the sprawling Los Angeles City Hall corruption pay-to-play scheme, resulting in the first ever RICO conviction of an elected Los Angeles official and other convictions of senior public officials, developers, lobbyists, and corporations. Separately, Susan successfully tried and secured the first federal convictions of a sitting U.S. Congressmember in decades and also prosecuted bribery, extortion, and corruption at the highest levels of the nation’s largest public utility and the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office stemming from a massive faulty billing scandal at the utility.  As a member of the Public Corruption and Civil Rights Section, Susan has also led a number of significant civil rights cases, including the successful prosecution of a Veterans Affairs police officer for beating a man 45 times with a police baton; the impactful investigation of officers with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department arising from a sheriff’s deputy use of excessive force against a transgender teacher in retaliation for exercising his First Amendment rights; and the 2022 mass shooting in Laguna Woods.

Susan will be joined in the firm’s Los Angeles office by Hecker Fink partners Mack Jenkins and Matt Craig.

Hecker Fink managing partner Julie Fink noted, “The firm’s growth reflects our ongoing commitment to excellence, collaboration, and service to the public good. Expanding to Los Angeles with leaders like Mack and Susan allows us to deepen our impact by combining top-tier legal representation with an unwavering dedication to justice. Their proven experience, both individually and as a team with an impeccable record in tackling some of the most complex and significant cases of our time, makes them invaluable additions to our team."

Prior to serving in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Susan was an associate at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP in Los Angeles.  She clerked for the Hon. Wallace A. Tashima of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the Hon. Cormac J. Carney of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. Susan received her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, where she graduated Order of the Coif. She graduated, with honors, from Claremont McKenna College, and was a Fulbright Scholar in South Korea. Susan joined the firm on February 24.
