NEW YORK, NY, May 19, 2025 – Hecker Fink LLP announced today the addition of Derek Wikstrom as counsel in the firm’s New York office. Wikstrom joins Hecker Fink from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, where he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Public Corruption Unit and White Plains Division.

During his five and a half years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Derek led federal criminal investigations into foreign and domestic bribery, fraud, sanctions violations, money laundering, and violence and narcotics offenses, and prosecuted some of the office’s most significant white collar matters. Among Derek’s notable matters were the successful prosecution of a former high-ranking FBI counterintelligence official who violated Russian sanctions, the trial conviction of a prominent Brooklyn church leader who defrauded his parishioners, and the convictions, including at trial, of the perpetrators of a scheme to defraud donors to a charity that sought to build a wall at the southern border of the United States.

“We are delighted to have Derek back at the firm,” said Hecker Fink Founding Partner Sean Hecker. “His deep courtroom experience and impressive track record in complex, high-profile cases bring invaluable strength to our broad white collar and litigation practice.”

Previously, Derek was a senior associate at the firm, where he represented clients in both civil and criminal matters at all stages of litigation. He was a member of the trial team that represented Robert Bogucki in a fraud prosecution relating to large foreign exchange options transactions, in which the Court granted him a Rule 29 acquittal, finding that no jury could reasonably convict on the evidence presented by the Government.

Earlier in Derek’s career, he worked as an associate at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP for six years, representing corporations and individuals in commercial litigation and U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission investigations and proceedings.

“I’m thrilled to be rejoining Hecker Fink,” said Wikstrom. “The firm has always combined a phenomenal litigation practice with a commitment to justice and to advancing the public interest—that rare combination was what drew me to the firm almost seven years ago, and it’s why I’m so excited to be coming home.”

Derek received his J.D., cum laude, from Northwestern University School of Law, where he served as an articles editor for the Northwestern University Law Review. He earned his B.A., magna cum laude, from The City College of New York.
