Kaplan Hecker & Fink Partner Joshua Matz was quoted in the U.S. News & World Report article, “If You Can't Beat 'em, Impeach 'em.”

A House committee began hearings this week on whether to approve articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. On January 10, 2024, Joshua Matz and Larry Tribe co-authored an open letter concerning the impeachment proceedings against Secretary Mayorkas that was signed by 25 bipartisan constitutional law experts and published in Just Security.

In “If You Can't Beat 'em, Impeach 'em,” Matz tells U.S News & World Report, "My feeling is that, as a practical matter, there's a good reason why the impeachment power has never functioned in any worthwhile way when it comes to the Cabinet.” Joshua Matz, KHF Partner and former counsel to the House Judiciary Committee during Donald Trump’s impeachments, said in an interview with U.S. News & World Report.

“There's a bigger picture," said Matz, "They're struggling to come up with the votes to impeach President Biden. One thing they can all agree on is to impeach Mayorkas, because they believe immigration is a popular and salient issue in the presidential election."
