LOS ANGELES, CA, February 25, 2025 – Hecker Fink LLP is pleased to welcome Mack Jenkins, a highly respected trial lawyer and former Chief of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, as a partner to lead our newly opened Los Angeles office. Jenkins’ years spent in the courtroom and deep understanding of the West Coast legal landscape will be instrumental to expanding the firm’s reach and providing exceptional legal services to clients in this dynamic market.

During his 17-year career with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Jenkins oversaw both the Criminal Division and its ten litigation sections. Prior to that, he headed the Public Corruption & Civil Rights Section and prosecuted landmark public corruption cases, as well as cases related to civil rights violations, hate crimes, violence against protestors, election integrity, and kleptocracy.

As Criminal Chief, he supervised over 180 federal prosecutors in a district serving almost twenty million people across seven counties. He notably led the RICO corruption investigation targeting Los Angeles City Hall, which resulted in ten total convictions – including the first racketeering conviction of an elected Los Angeles official, along with a deputy mayor, a city councilman, and two major real estate development companies. In a separate trial, Jenkins served as the lead prosecutor of the team that secured the first federal convictions of a sitting U.S. member of Congress in decades. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, an honor he earned while serving in government, making him the third Hecker Fink partner to achieve this distinction alongside Sean Hecker and David Patton.

Hailed for his groundbreaking work, Jenkins prosecuted a hate crime case stemming from a gang’s coordinated midnight firebombing of apartments occupied by Black families, which received the Anti-Defamation League’s Combating Hate Award in 2020. He additionally led a 72-defendant RICO indictment of the Broadway Gangster Crips, which was the largest pending case in the district at the time and earned him and his team the DOJ’s Director’s Award in 2019, given to only a handful of Assistant U.S. Attorneys nationwide. He also prosecuted one of the Secret Service’s largest “ink and jet” counterfeiting schemes, which was featured in an episode on MSNBC’s American Greed.

Jenkins will be joined in the firm’s Los Angeles office by Susan Har, who comes to the firm as Counsel after having most recently served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and the Hate Crimes Coordinator for the Central District of California. Har is an extremely accomplished trial lawyer and prosecutor in her own right, having also prosecuted the Los Angeles City Hall RICO corruption case, including securing separate across-the-board trial convictions against a foreign billion-dollar real estate development company and a Los Angeles Deputy Mayor; a sitting U.S. Congressman; a sprawling corruption scandal involving the nation’s largest public utility; and law enforcement officers for civil rights violations. She joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 2019 after three years as an associate at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP. Jenkins and Har will be joined in the firm’s Los Angeles office by Hecker Fink partner Matt Craig.

“We’re delighted to welcome Mack and Susan, both phenomenal trial lawyers, to our team,” said Hecker Fink founding partner Sean Hecker. “Their dedication to justice and public service has left an indelible impact on the Los Angeles community. Their leadership in cases addressing corruption, civil rights, and public integrity aligns perfectly with our firm’s values, making them the ideal additions to help us expand our practice to the West Coast.”

Hecker Fink managing partner Julie Fink added: “The firm’s growth reflects our ongoing commitment to excellence, collaboration, and service to the public good. Expanding to Los Angeles with leaders like Mack and Susan allows us to deepen our impact by combining top-tier legal representation with an unwavering dedication to justice. Their proven experience, both individually and as a team with an impeccable record in tackling some of the most complex and significant cases of our time, makes them invaluable additions to our team.”

“I’m extremely thrilled and motivated to start the next chapter of my career at Hecker Fink and lead the new office in Los Angeles, driven by a shared mission-oriented approach to public interest and impact litigation. The firm’s dedication to upholding the rule of law, evidenced by their groundbreaking trial victories and robust litigation practice, deeply resonates with my DNA as a lawyer and as a person,” said Jenkins. “I’m looking forward to building on this momentum in Los Angeles and further elevating the firm’s remarkable record of advancing justice and accountability nationwide alongside a talented group of lawyers.”

He has twice received the Attorney General’s Award, has received the EOUSA Director’s award, has received the California Lawyer of the Year Award three times, has been named the FBA’s Top Public Service Lawyer and a Top 100 Lawyer by the Daily Journal, and has been named one of LA’s Most Influential People by the Los Angeles Business Journal.

Prior to serving in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Jenkins was an associate at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP in Los Angeles, where he specialized in complex business and entertainment litigation and was named Public Counsel’s Volunteer Attorney of the Year. He graduated from Yale Law School and earned his B.A. in political science and business administration from the University of California, Los Angeles.
